General Iron is racing to restart after two explosions in May. We introduced a citizen’s ordinance to keep the notorious polluter closed during COVID19, but we can’t do it without you.

Add your name to keep General Iron closed.

The ordinance calls on the mayor to use her authority “to issue all necessary and appropriate Executive Orders to halt and suspend operations of General Iron Industries, Inc. during the COVID-19 pandemic until Phase Five of the ‘City of Chicago Reopening Plan: Protecting Chicago’ framework is complete.”

The city has only paused its operations. Once repairs are made, General Iron can start back up and operate anywhere in Chicago.

General Iron has proven that it cannot operate safely and that it should not be anywhere in the city of Chicago—not on the north and not on the south.
